News from the Director:

Dear Friends of the Music Festival,

We just finished our 19th season! Thank you for supporting the music festival and joining us at our wonderful events – from Time Spans to One World, opera to chamber music, and of course, gypsy jazz.

I would like to share with you some news for next year and get you excited for what is sure to be the best season ever! There is already anticipation for next year’s Frank Vignola Guitar Camp, as this year’s inaugural event was a resounding success. We had 30 eager participants and very enthusiastic musicians. We plan to include more days, activities, instruments and instructors. We have more sensational ideas in the works, and if everything goes as planned, you will not want to miss any events! Stay tuned, as we will be sending our updates to you.

Thank you again for a wonderful season- we couldn’t have done it without you. See you all next summer!

-Alexander Scheirle, Executive Director

IT’S LA BOHEME! July 2016!

Crested Butte Music Festival is thrilled to present Puccini’s La bohème for our 2016 season, one of Italian opera’s most popular masterpieces. An ideal introduction for newcomers perhaps familiar with the blockbuster musical Rent, La bohème tells a tragic tale of love and loss, and traces the youthful adventures and struggles of a poet, a painter, a musician and a philosopher trying to pursue their artistic dreams. Enter Mimì and Musetta, two women who change their lives forever.

This year’s production will showcase members of the acclaimed Crested Butte Opera Studio, a select group of emerging opera professionals chosen after national auditions, with Maestro David Stern leading the Festival Symphony Orchestra. Since its founding in 2009, the Crested Butte Opera Studio training program has provided world-class comprehensive operatic training and performance opportunities to developing young singers and pianists. Participation in the program has catapulted the careers of more than 85 alumni who have performed on renowned stages such as Carnegie and Alice Tully halls; with companies such as the Santa Fe, Dallas, Glimmerglass and Washington National operas; and as semifinalists, finalists and grand prizewinners in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
