Austrian Waltz Tour

Vienna and Salzburg with the Crested Butte Music Festival

March 23-April 1, 2019 (Tour begins in Salzburg on March 24)

Join CBMF Co-Artistic Directors Erik Peterson and Emily Ondracek-Peterson for an extraordinary musical experience next spring, when they host a journey to the musical capitals of Vienna and Salzburg. Lucky travelers will hear the great Russian maestro Valery Gergiev conduct the Munich Philharmonic in the Musikverein, the legendary Placido Domingo sing the title role of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at the Vienna State Opera, and performances by Vienna’s own renowned early-music ensemble, Concentus Musicus, as well as the Vienna Symphony. In Salzburg, we will enjoy a private concert at the prestigious Mozarteum.

Vienna has long been seized by a passion for music. A succession of Habsburg rulers provided a cultural milieu where the nurturing of musicians and of new music established important musical traditions that endure to this day. On our journey we will walk in the footsteps of Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven, and visit palaces, theatres, and concert halls where music has played a significant role for centuries. We will also sample the fine food and wine for which Austria is noted, and feast our eyes on outstanding landscapes and city views.

No visit to Vienna would be complete without a day along the Danube, and our excursion will take us up the river to the great Abbey of Melk, where Mozart once played the organ. And on our way from Salzburg, we’ll travel through the lovely mountains and lakes of the Salzkammergut. Do you hear the sound of music?

Expert private guides lead us through many major sites in both cities, deluxe hotels, fine dining, delightful cafés, the commentary of Emily and Erik, and plenty of free time all make this a cultural experience not to be missed!
