Poe, Shelly, Hawthorne, Byron, and Goethe expressed those sentiments in prose and poetry, and Beethoven exalted them in music. Learn about the Classical and Romantic periods and how Beethoven’s music evolves into a Romantic manifesto that expresses the sublime.
